Kathleen Edwards - Back To Me

Il primo disco che recensisco nel 2008, in realtà ha ormai 3 anni. Ed è un gran bel disco.
Kathleen Edwards è canadese, classe 1978, la sua storia è fatta di viaggi, di violino, dischi di Tom Petty, Bob Dylan e Neil Young, un passaporto che non può far altro che evidenziare il territorio in cui Kathleen si dovrà muovere: quell'America spoglia di sogni e ricca di misteri, fatta di fiumi, vaste pianure, foreste, deserti... Un lungo viaggio che ha l'unico scopo di ritornare a casa, che è dove è il cuore, che è nelle proprie radici, nella propria storia. Così la Edwards scrive un disco, il secondo della sua carriera, che sa di un ritorno a qualcosa di confortante e sereno, un disco deciso e consapevole, fatto di suoni e voci che ricordano la sua appartenenza alla scuola di alternative country americano e che allo stesso tempo vuole essere molto di più, andare oltre.
Back To Me, la title track è una sferzata di energia " I've got lights you've never seen / I've got moves I've never used / I've got ways to make you come back to me ", ben diversa dalle più riflessive Pink Emerson Radio, Away o Copied Keys, che forse risentono molto di più degli echi di Ryan Adams e soci. Il brano migliore dall'album l'ha scovato quel bravo regista che è Cameron Crowe, che si è servito di Summerlong per inserirlo nel discreto Elizabethtown con Orlando Bloom e Kristen Dunst. E Summerlong è la traccia che vale l'intero disco, solare e creativo, che lascia intravedere un buon futuro per la Edwards, con un nuovo disco in arrivo tra poche settimane. Io aspetto e poi saprò che dire...
